Zelenskyy: Ukraine Lacked Early Warning Before Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday that Ukraine did not receive any advance warning from its international allies before a Russian ballistic missile assault on Kyiv that targeted civilian infrastructure. The attack on Monday saw five missiles hit civilian locations, highlighting the urgent need for improved intelligence sharing to safeguard lives, according to Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy emphasized the critical nature of timely warnings, which allow civilians and emergency services to prepare for incoming threats. The absence of such alerts in this instance raises concerns, despite ongoing intelligence collaborations with international partners. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha suggested the lack of warning could be linked to the specific type of Russian missile employed in the attack.

This incident occurs amidst uncertainties surrounding U.S. intelligence support for Ukraine, with reports indicating that the Trump administration considered halting intelligence sharing. Ukrainian officials have consistently underscored the importance of this cooperation, especially for identifying ballistic missile launches and monitoring long-range bomber movements.

Increased tensions over energy infrastructure attacks further complicate the situation. U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Ukraine to cease striking Russian oil refineries and announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin involving diesel supplies. Trump claimed there was an energy ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, but Zelenskyy stated Ukraine had not received confirmation of such a deal.

Zelenskyy accused Russia of ongoing attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities despite the purported ceasefire. He noted that Ukraine had temporarily halted its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure following the U.S. announcement but insisted that any suspension of attacks must be mutual and backed by reliable assurances.

Meanwhile, Russian missile strikes continue to inflict civilian casualties and damage across Ukraine. Zelenskyy reported a separate attack on Kharkiv, where a residential building was destroyed, resulting in four deaths and 41 injuries.

In response to the escalating Russian assaults on cities and energy infrastructure, Ukraine is appealing to its international partners for additional air defense systems, including the Patriot missile systems, as the country braces for intensified attacks ahead of winter.
