In a move to bolster their diplomatic and economic relations, Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan have committed to enhancing cooperation across various sectors. This decision was made at the conclusion of the seventh session of the Türkiye-Kyrgyzstan Joint Strategic Planning Group, held in Ankara and led by the foreign ministers of both nations. The discussions focused on expanding partnerships in trade, investment, and transportation, as well as promoting regional connectivity. The two countries also emphasized their dedication to peaceful resolutions of international conflicts through diplomatic means.
The meeting served as a platform to evaluate the progress in bilateral relations, with both parties agreeing to further collaboration in vital areas such as education, cultural exchanges, and economic growth. Plans are underway for future visits by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to Türkiye and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Kyrgyzstan, as both leaders aim to strengthen diplomatic ties through these engagements. Economic cooperation emerged as a key focus, with commitments made to support new investment initiatives and enhance business-friendly environments to benefit both nations.
Central to their discussions was the topic of regional connectivity, where Kyrgyzstan underscored the significance of the Middle Corridor. This strategic transport route is intended to link the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway with broader European and Middle Eastern markets via Türkiye, promising improved access and economic opportunities. Both countries are keen to leverage this corridor to boost trade and facilitate the movement of goods and people.
Security issues, both regional and global, were also on the agenda, with a shared resolve to address disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law. Kyrgyzstan expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s efforts in regional mediation and acknowledged Ankara’s support in its successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. This achievement is part of Kyrgyzstan’s broader strategy to foster international dialogue, while advocating for the needs of landlocked, mountainous, and small island nations.
The meeting highlighted a mutual commitment to not only strengthen bilateral relations but also to play proactive roles on the international stage. Through strategic cooperation and a focus on peaceful conflict resolution, Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan aim to set an example of effective partnership and diplomacy in addressing both local and global challenges.
