Netanyahu Condemns Houthi Missile Strike on Riyadh Airport Amid Rising Tensions

Regional tensions have escalated following a deadly missile attack by Houthi rebels on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The attack, which killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300, has intensified the ongoing Yemen conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the strike, describing it as a horrific terrorist act and expressing condolences to the victims’ families. He called for a united stance against terrorism, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and maintain regional security.

The attack on the Riyadh airport has severely disrupted civilian life and operations in the area. In response, Saudi authorities have closed the facility and shifted schools to remote learning to ensure safety, although a major international energy conference in the capital is still expected to proceed. Additionally, Saudi aviation authorities have reported that the airport was targeted again on Sunday, confirming further injuries and initiating damage assessments and safety checks.

The Saudi-led coalition, backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government, has been engaged in an intensifying conflict with the Houthi rebels, who are supported by Iran. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi airports and energy facilities, warning against the use of much of the kingdom’s airspace. Meanwhile, the Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of airstrikes in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, which allegedly resulted in the death of a child and injuries to several others. Saudi officials have yet to respond to these accusations.

The escalation in hostilities raises concerns over civilian infrastructure security and the potential impact on shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical maritime route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. Further conflict could threaten regional energy supplies and international maritime trade, heightening global economic implications.

Amid these developments, US President Donald Trump announced plans to speak with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, underscoring growing international apprehension about the potential for broader regional involvement in the conflict.
